All this is to say that new applied sciences develop quickly and repeatedly, and society is used to and adapts rapidly to these fixed innovations. People are constantly discovering new methods to make life easier and better(supposedly). However, it is uncommon that we stop and ask ourselves if technology actually improves quality of life. Alice Kahn, who mentioned, “For an inventory of all of the ways technology has failed to enhance the quality of life, please press three,” certainly doesn’t assume so. I imagine that while technology has improved quality of life in sure ways, for the most part, it has only given the phantasm of enhancing high quality of life, without really doing so.
